Helping You Overcome a Criminal Charge

Being arrested or accused of a crime can feel like the end. A conviction could prevent you from certain job opportunities, professional licenses, and housing applications.

As a result, we understand how important the outcome of your defense is and how to keep fighting even in the face of unfavorable results. There are a few post-conviction relief options you may pursue based on your situation:

  • Appeal the court’s ruling – You can appeal a court’s ruling within 30 days of your initial trial by filing a Motion for a New Trial. The purpose of an appeal is to address whether procedural errors in the original trial led to the verdict. The appeals court will not be looking at new witnesses or new evidence.
  • Apply for expunction – If your offense is eligible (Class C misdemeanors or crimes that did not result in conviction), you may apply for expunction, which removes that offense from your criminal record.
  • Petition for nondisclosure – Most misdemeanors are eligible for nondisclosure, and first-time offenses will receive an automatic nondisclosure. A nondisclosure seals that offense from public view, though it will remain accessible to certain criminal justice agencies and government agencies.

Our attorneys can take a closer look at your situation to determine which option fits best for you. If there are obvious procedural errors in your first trial, we can certainly build a strong case for an appeal.
